'Would they like that on their own doorstep? I don't think so'
For more than a fortnight, the eyes of a nation have turned to the sleepy village of St Michael's on Wyre as a shell-shocked community reacted to the unexplained disappearance of a mum-of-two.
Ms Bulley had dropped off her daughters, aged six and nine, at school and was on her usual walk when she disappeared, her phone – still connected to a call for her job as a mortgage advisor – was found on a bench overlooking the river. The force added: “People may have seen less police activity around the river, but that’s not because we have stepped down our searches, rather the focus of the search has moved further downstream and out towards the coast.
The company has started patrols in the village in response large numbers of "TikTokers and Youtubers" who have flooded the area in the wake of her disappearance. Warnings had earlier been made of people travelling from all over the country to take selfies in the spot she was last seen. Spencer said visitors to the area have trespassed onto private property and entered the old house which overlooks the River Wyre near where Nicola Bulley went missing. A lot of attention on social media has been focused on what people have deemed to be "abandoned properties" close to the river.
Spencer and his team live locally to St Michael's-on-Wyre and will provide their services for free, walking and driving through the village and visiting any notable "hot spots". They are patrolling the area and advising people "of what to do and what not to do". "Some of the media haven't been polite and they haven't been nice and they have been harassing - is the word that I would use. Again, with various resident's concerns over it.
