Based on the British series of the same name created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Office first aired on NBC in 2005, introducing audiences to the Scranton branch of paper company Dunder Mifflin.

While later seasons of The Office dig deeper into the friendship that has formed between Jim and Dwight, the two characters are major rivals throughout most of the series. The two characters are just fundamentally very different, with Dwight being eccentric, work-obsessed, and opinionated, and Jim being laid back and generally uncaring about his work life.
