Anyone looking for a perfect weekend activity this June should consider heading to Craigmillar Castle in Edinburgh, which not only has a fascinating history but has spectacular views.
Craigmillar Castle is a great day-trip spot, particularly if you live near Edinburgh, and will especially appeal to Outlander fansNow thathas well and truly begun, and the temperature is rising, there is no better way to spend your Saturday or Sunday than getting out and exploring some of the best that Scotland has to offer. Assuming the sun stays out, an outdoor activity is always a good shout.
The castle has a fascinating history dating back to the 14th century, when it was a simple tower house residence built by the Preston family of Craigmillar. Over the years, many additions were made as it passed on to new owners. Importantly, before the Queen departed on December 7, a pact known as the Craigmillar Bond was drawn up, either with or without her involvment, to kill her husband Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley.
