Funmi Olufunwa is frustrated at the way inheritance tax currently works and is calling for reform
The 44-year-old says she does not believe it’s “right or fair that having paid all of the tax that we’re required to pay during our lifetime, our estates are then potentially taxed again.”It is often referred to as Britain’s most hated tax, despite only around 4 per cent of estates having to pay it.
The mum-of-one would eventually like to see the tax scrapped altogether but says that for now, if it is going to stay, there needs to be a series of changes made to it. “People have different lifestyles now, lots of people are in long-term relationships but don’t get married, and wouldn’t get same benefits as anyone else,” she says.
Funmi’s comments come amid reports that there is pressure on Rishi Sunak to commit to cutting IHT if he wins July’s general election.
