you would be forgiven for assuming that there’s nothing left to say about the People’s Princess. In his latest documentary, however, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ed Perkins offers up a fresh perspective on the Diana story, using archival footage to trace her journey from wide-eyed Sloane to global phenomenon. With no talking heads and no cringey reenactments,foregrounds the extent to which the media is responsible for hounding Diana to death – and makes for deliberately overwhelming viewing.
In the newly released trailer, crowds eagerly await a glimpse of Diana outside the Ritz in Paris – only for everything to fade to black as tyres screech dramatically – while video clips of Diana are symbolically interspersed with royal hunts in a chilling manner. “Turning the camera back on ourselves, the film illuminates the profound impact she had and how the public’s attitude to the monarchy was, and still is, shaped by these events,” reads the blurb from Altitude Films.
