Reporter and Everton fan Dan Haygarth shares his love for County Road's pubs
Fans pile off the train, walk up the stairs and onto Westminster Road as they begin the march to Goodison Park. That walk often carries a feeling of trepidation with it, but that subsides somewhat as you're absorbed into a sea of blue with others making their way to the ground - you're in it together now.
You pass a number of pubs on the walk from Kirkdale station. The first that really draws you in is The Leigh Arms on Barlow Lane, where drinkers spill out onto the pavement. An al-fresco Guinness as you watch the crowds descend on Goodison is a good way to get going. Inside, it is appropriately decked out with Everton regalia. There's often a scrum to get to the bar but there is plenty to discuss while you wait to be served.
Win, lose or draw, a pint after the match is equally part of my matchday ritual, often suggested as a way to miss the crowds on the trains. More truthfully, it's to spend more time in these pubs.
