Roy Aitken paid a visit to the Washington Celtic Supporters Club
The biggest TV show in the US right now is called The Bear, and is about a wee moody chef guy trying to run a restaurant. But the real Bear was in Washington DC the other night.
On their first trip to the States in the 1930s, Willie Maley brought the Scottish Cup. It was in a big wooden box but at some point it got lost. The trophy turned up but the box went AWOL and legendary striker Jimmy McGrory ended up carting the trophy around in a carrier bag. He said: “It began in 1997. The team wasn’t that great back then so it was a bit of a hard sell! There was a real hardcore of fans who’d come and watch the games at the Four Courts but it’s gotten bigger over the years and there’s now up to around 60 members.
