Whether you think it's a psychological marketing tactic or simply to save customer's money, we asked people in Accrington, Burnley and Darwen what they think of supermarket loyalty cards
As prices for every day groceries seem to be hiking all the time, more and more of us are shopping around. It's more important than ever to try and bag the best deal.
Ewan wonders whether the differences for products in Tesco, between the price normally and the price for Clubcard members is "psychological", he adds: "I think more than anything, I think it's psychological. Although Lynn does use her Tesco Clubcard when shopping there, she is less of a fan of the digitalised side of things and doesn't use any of the apps. This goes alongside what Martin Lewis's Money Saving Expert has reported, stating that some people in society, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, are being "unfairly discriminated against" as many supermarkets restrict savings to their online apps.
"We've done it for the petrol, I think that was Morrison's and that was pretty good. But they do what they do don't they, they get you through the door." Maz said that she used to only shop at Asda, but has recently swapped to shopping at Tesco once prices started rising. She added: "There and Aldi, them two even out, but it's maybe a little bit dearer at Tesco."
Beverley says that unlike other supermarkets, all items are the same price whether you have the Rewards App or not, but it just allows you to gain points whilst shopping. "You can get 10 per cent off here and there, but it's different every time you go in and there are star products too."
