Get the family together, pack the car up and hit the road this summer
You can’t beat a good road trip in the summer and new research has found the best scenic drive in the UK - and it’s within easy reach of Greater Manchester. Windermere in the Lake District has been named the top scenic road trip location in the country.
It’s hardly surprising given Windermere’s breathtaking scenery and the range of routes motorists can choose from. Keep things short and sweet with an 8.8mile route from Windermere to Grasmere via Ambleside, or choose the more challenging drive to Ullswater via Kirkstone Pass, which stretches on for 17 miles.
Coming in joint second on the list is Keswick in the Lake District, which offers equally gorgeous views and Bourton-on-the-water in The Cotswolds. St Ives rounds off the top three.The list is dominated by the south, with Dorest and Cornwall both claiming too locations, but there is another Lake District location, Grasmere, which is ranked fifth on the list. The latter saw a staggering increase in Google searches in the last 12 months - 173 per cent.
Researches from specialist insurance broker ChoiceQuote analysed data for top road trip destinations including TikTok searches, Instagram hashtags, Instagram searches, Google searches and Google trend increases. Then an overall score was given to the locations to determine their rank.
