Women from South Asian communities say non-physical forms of domestic abuse are not recognised.
Women of South Asian heritage have said they hope that learning about domestic abuse will "stop the cycle for the next generation".
Zlakha Ahmed, who founded Apna Haq 30 years ago, said: "The stigma will remain as long as we don’t talk about these issues openly." She hoped that her life in Huddersfield would give her freedom, but instead she found herself exploited by her husband and his parents. "I thought I was in a better position because I was going out to work, but they were sending me out to earn money that I had to give to them."
