A number of Gemmill's side have already had a taste of a top team squad and could yet push into the reckoning for Germany.
Scot Gemmill will remind his Scotland Under-21 stars a place on the plane for Germany 2024 is not out of reach as they gear up for a huge Euros qualifier of their own.
Gemmill said: “I don’t feel the need to do that as a planned approach - but I probably will say or remind them how close they are. I want there to be a sense of occasion when we play on Thursday to get that intensity within the team’s performance. Of more immediate importance is Thursday’s qualifier against Kazakhstan. At the halfway stage of the campaign Gemmill’s young guns sit second in Group B behind Spain and ahead of Belgium - who they dumped 2-0 earlier in the campaign - on goal difference. That would be good enough for a play-off spot.
“The players need to show that ability too. It’s a different skill. That again is a really good measure of where the players are.
