This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available. Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT If its co-showrunner is right, The Simpsons should have a long and bright future ahead of it. The show, which was created by Matt Groening, began in 1989. It was a spin-off from The Tracey Ullman Show's shorts and follows a small family living in a typical cartoon sitcom.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, co-showrunner Al Jean explained that he sees many more years of The Simpsons ahead. Though season 35 is coming to an end, The Simpsons season 36 has already been renewed. Jean believes that the show will reach more milestones going forward. He hopes to reach episode 1,000, which would mean over 200 more episodes. Check out his full quote below:

With the help of our animators, we had a full slate of shows this year, which looked terrific. We did have to just take a break for four months because of the strike, which I'm glad we did, that was what we should have done. But I think the show is in fantastic shape. I'm biased, but I think that the current episodes are, whether I work on one, a lot or not, are great. And I think that the future is bright, it's gonna go to 800, and I hope 1000.
