with its latest episode, “Cremains of the Day,” characters were faced with the death of Larry the Barfly, in which longtime fans familiar with the name were shocked to learn of the death of a classic Springfield resident.
In episodes, Barfly would often be seen in scenes set in the background of Moe’s Tavern, where he eventually dropped dead. Barfly was voiced by Harry Shearer, who also voices multiple other major “Simpsons” characters, including Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers and Ned Flanders. In the episode, his full name was revealed to be Lawrence Dalrymple. Homer, along with friends Moe, Lenny and Carl attend his funeral, where they realize they knew little about him given the number of years they had all known each other. The episode explored the aftermath of the character’s death, which leaves Homer to wonder if they’re “terrible people.
