A huge milestone was reached Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Gulf Shores High School as the first-ever, student-built airplane took its first public flight. The first passenger was Alabama State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Eric Mackey.

) - A huge milestone was reached Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Gulf Shores High School as the first-ever, student-built airplane took its first public flight. The first passenger was Alabama State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Eric Mackey. Close to 200 people turned out for the big event.

The guest of honor was State Schools Superintendent, Dr. Eric Mackey. After addressing the crowd, it was showtime as Mackey got ready to load up. It was a proud moment for students like junior, Chase Calloway who joined the Aviation Academy in 9th grade and has been part of the build from the beginning.
