Privilege, legal wrangling and violent death in a handsome eight-part package, starring Colin Firth, Toni Collette and Sophie Turner.
. De Lestrade embedded with the defence team of Michael Peterson, the Durham, North Carolina, writer who was convicted of murdering his wife at the base of his home’s staircase, and his camera followed the case and all of its revelations and hypotheses in exhausting detail. The episodes were deeply bingeable, inconclusive, and controversially sympathetic to Peterson who never stopped proclaiming his innocence, all the way to prison .feels potentially opportunistic and possibly unnecessary.
Colette is just as impressive as his second wife, Kathleen, who suffers Michael’s outsized personality with simmering stress and resentment. There are a ton of Peterson children too, rallying around or turning against their father, and they are all memorable here, especially Sophie Turner as Margaret and Odessa Young as Martha, adopted daughters who are both loyal and haunted in equal measure.
