The Surfer, a new movie starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Lorcan Finnegan, has been acquired by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.
The Surfer held its world premiere at the Midnight Screenings section of the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, where it received a six-minute standing ovation. The movie is directed byLionsgate and Roadside Attractions have officially acquired the North American distribution rights to The Surfer. The movie will be released in United States theaters in 2025.
“Lorcan’s movie is a stunning visual experience with an incredible palette, coupled with Nicolas Cage at his absolute best,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s Lauren Bixby. “We could not be more proud to bring this film to theaters Roadside Attractions co-presidents Eric d’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen added, “We cannot wait for The Surfer to ride the theatrical wave next year. One man’s gnarly quest to introduce his son to a legendary surf spot ranks among the greatest Nicolas Cage performances.
Along with Cage, The Surfer stars Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little, and Charlotte Maggi. The script for the movie was written by Thomas Martin. Cage produces the film alongside Leonora Darby, James Harris, Robert Connolly, James Grandison, Brunella Cocchiglia, and Nathan Klingher, while Finnegan, Apur Parikh, Robert Patterson, Mark Lane, Michael Rothstein, Sam Hall, Ford Corbett, Mark Fasano, Ryan Winterstern, Josh Harris, Greg Friedman, Jatin Desai, and François Tétaz serve as executive producers.
