Thus was Malnati’s win a victory for something other than personal enrichment. It spoke for golf’s common man, maybe for its soul, as did the emotions that spilled forth in the aftermath as he articulated what it meant to lift a trophy whilst cradling his young son, Hatcher. “There’s been a lot of stretches of golf in the last nine years when I wondered if I would ever have that experience. I feel like this win is, you know, first and foremost, for me. It’s for my family, it’s for my caddie, it’s for my team of people who support me.
