Colin Gunn was once one of the most feared criminals in the country - a man who ruled vast swathes of the city and county with an iron fist.
In the summer of 2018, following two shootings in Nottingham on the same day, police were asked if the city was reverting to its infamous nickname 'Shottingham'. Detective Superintendent Andrea Baxter swiftly assured the public that the current situation was not "anywhere near that".
He also noted that "by virtue of his name and association with his brother Colin, it is plain that he has achieved a certain level of notoriety". Nonetheless, David Gunn - the elder of the two had already done enough to earn his own share of notoriety. One former detective described their approach, saying: "Their modus operandi was to visit a business and ask to see the gaffer. Colin would point out to the boss that his security was not very good and for a hundred quid a week he would make sure they were safe."
David Gunn, categorised as a serious threat by the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements Board, was compelled to reside in a bail hostel far from his family in Northampton. However, later in the same year, he found himself back in prison for infringing parole conditions. Jamie Gunn Jamie Gunn, who was seated in the back of the car, held Marvyn in his arms as he succumbed to his injuries. Unable to save his friend, this tragic event marked the beginning of a downward spiral for Jamie. A former student of Padstow Comprehensive School and resident of Bestwood Estate, Jamie began drinking heavily, neglecting his diet, and disappearing for days on end. His health deteriorated rapidly, with noticeable weight loss and a pale complexion.
Michael O'Brien Known by the nicknames Jay or JJ, O'Brien spent his teenage years getting into trouble with the law and skipping school. By the time he was 20, he had been in and out of jail. During a stint at Moorlands Prison in Doncaster in 2001, he was slashed across the face by a rival gang member.
The pair then retreated to Salmon's home in Bulwell, where they changed into dark clothing, gloves and balaclavas. Salmon produced a single-barreled shotgun wrapped in a coat, which O'Brien took back to the pub and used to shoot Marvyn Bradshaw. "I accept I made a mistake and this is part of the punishment for that mistake. But I'm never going to accept that this is my life. It probably has got easier in some ways as time has gone on. I really find it hard to accept that this is my life."
Despite fears of losing touch with their family, they declined witness protection from the police but left the city the following day. They relocated to Goole, but by December that year, they had moved again, this time to Trusthorpe on the Lincolnshire coast. Following the announcement of the convictions, a small riot broke out on Bestwood Estate, with a crowd of around 30 people attacking police with petrol bombs and bricks.
He also reflected on the causes of his betrayal, saying, "I feel my greed, vanity and naivety were to blame and the fact I didn't have the strength or courage to face up to my wrongdoing and tell someone before the inevitable happened. I was blind to the consequences of my actions and chose to ignore them."
Proven to have amassed £8.3 million from his heroin and amphetamine trade in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, John Dawes faced a 24-year sentence in 2005 for money laundering and drug distribution conspiracy. He paid his children's £27,000 school fees in cash and ran a £1,000-a-ball lottery for other major criminals in Notts to win his £30,000 Mercedes. Colin and David Gunn were among the participants, with the winner decided based on that day's Lotto Bonus Ball number.
