Time is running out for a crucial piece of legislation to be passed.
The party conference season is over and as Keir Starmer tries to get that last bit of glitter out of his hair, MPs will soon be heading back to Parliament. As the green benches are filled once again, there is one thing that our parliamentarians must prioritise for Nottinghamshire as this new term begins.
The scrapping of HS2 saw the Prime Minister announcing billions of pounds for hundreds of local transport projects instead. In Nottinghamshire, most of the money is going to the new combined authority for it to decide how it is spent.The Government has already said that this money could be spent by the new authority on initiatives such as extending Nottingham's tram system.
Ben Bradley, the Conservative candidate to be East Midlands Mayor, has previously said that the legislation needs to be finished this autumn to allow enough time. Mr Bradley has also said that there will be a point where it becomes "too late" if the legislation doesn't pass, with a very lengthy delay possible.
