Situated just 20 miles out of Glasgow, Inchcailloch is one of many islands that dot Loch Lomond — and it is particularly popular over spring when it is carpeted with colourful flowers.
After months of bitter cold and grey, springtime sees the country's vistas painted with colour. From snowdrops to daffodils, everywhere you turn there are vibrant flowers dotting the countryside.
Inchcailloch covers just 0.19 square miles, and is within walking distance of the charming village of Balmaha on the east coast of Loch Lomond. Despite being even smaller than neighbouring islands such as Inchlonaig and Inchmurrin, it is amongst the most popular on the loch — welcoming around 20,000 visitors every year.
Elsewhere, Inchcailloch boasts a rich ecosystem filled with gorgeous flora and fauna. Like its neighbouring isles, it is home to an abundance of oak trees that provide ideal conditions for "distinctive communities of mosses, lichens and birds" to thrive, according to VisitScotland.
