The Traitors viewers have criticized a theory put forward by some contestants that there must be a male Traitor in the current season.
The Traitors viewers have slammed a theory from some contestants that all the Traitors can't be women. This season of the BBC series is now down to the pointy end, with only two episodes left. During the first episode, Armani, Linda and Minah were selected as the three Traitors, with Minah eventually bringing Charlotte on board after the other two were banished.
However, after the group became suspicious of Minah, she too was sent packing, with Charlotte recruiting Freddie in last night’s episode. But before Minah was banished, some of the contestants were convinced there must be a male Traitor too. Studying the photographs of the contestants in the dining room, Jake and Alexander pondered who might not be on side as a Faithful. \‘I’m just trying to look at it another way in terms of who it could be. If it was a man, it’s not me and it’s not you – that leaves one (Freddie),’ Jake said. ‘Do you not think it has to be a man?’ he added. Responding, Alexander said: ‘I don’t know. I genuinely don’t know. I think an all-female group of Traitors would be perfectly plausible actually.’ Despite other contestants also questioning if a man was part of the group of Traitors, some viewers were less than impressed by these initial comments. ‘”It has to be a man who’s a Traitor. It can’t all be women in my eyes”. Sexism saving the day!’ Hannah posted on X. ‘Jake thinking that there’s no way that it’s only female Traitors is not a good look,’ Joe shared. Jake pondered the possibility of a man still needing to be uncovered (Picture: BBC) ‘I’d love to know why Jake thinks it HAS to be a man? What is the reason behind it? Why can’t it be all women?’ Carolanne wrote. ‘The male Traitor theory from Jake is so wide of the mark. It was all guys last year so why not all women this?’ Dave added. Meanwhile Caitlin said she couldn’t wait for it to be revealed ‘all The Traitors have been women the whole series’. But by the end of the episode the tables had turned, and many people were now suspicious that one of the three remaining men were a Traitor. ‘I chose Freddie in order to protect myself in the long term because everyone thinks it’s a man, so basically I’ve already gone against Freddie, which is a risk. But no risk, no reward,’ Charlotte said. Earlier this season host Claudia Winkleman spoke about the decision to select three female Traitors this time around. Charlotte played into the theory by selecting Freddie to join her as a Traitor (Picture: BBC) ‘We talk to all of them in the library, and I’m just the smallest voice in the room but we decide, having had those chats, who it’s going to be. And I loved picking these three,’ she explained. ‘I had faith. They felt like the right three. Whatever happens, it was the right thing to do.’ Last season Traitors Harry Clark and Paul Gorton only chose to add men to their ranks, with Claudia quipping at the time: ‘Another man, good, it’s like the olden days.’ After the series aired she explained: ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have done but I just had to say it. I was like “Come on, boys, what you need here is a really smart woman”, but they were threatened by them.’ The Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One. Got a story?
