A hearing on June 21 and another on June 24 will focus on Trump’s widely disputed argument that special counsel Jack Smith was not lawfully appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to oversee the case. This theory has been pushed within some conservative circles, and Cannon said she would allow outside parties — meaning people other than the prosecutors and Trump’s attorneys — to participate in the hearing.
