The Ultimate Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon timeline
prequel dives into some serious Targaryen history, and will follow their reign, beginning with Viserys I on the Iron Throne.that we all know and love then you're probably not alone.
The Children of the Forest created the White Walkers as weapons by ritually piercing the chests of some First Men with dragonglass daggers. This act had ramifications that would last millennia. Brandon Stark raised the Wall with magic to prevent the Walkers from returning. He also founded the castle of Winterfell, House Stark and the Night's Watch.
The Valyrians took Dragonstone around 200 BAC, an island just off the eastern coast of Westeros in the Narrow Sea. The Targaryen family became the rulers of that island and began using it as a trading post with the Seven Kingdoms. As legend goes, Lord Aenar Targaryen was encouraged to bring his family from Valyria to Dragonstone after his daughter Daenys prophesied Valyria's downfall.
Lyanna's brother and father respectively Brandon and Lord Rickard Stark demanded justice from Aerys. Aerys responded by burning Rickard alive while Brandon was strangled to death, earning him the nickname The Mad King. The Mad King was killed by his Kingsguard Jaime Lannister, who from then on became known as"the Kingslayer".
He was unsuccessful and his son Theon Greyjoy was offered as hostage and ward. Theon was placed under the care of Ned at Robert's instruction. Ned was not the only Stark to have stumbled across the truth. His young son Bran Stark witnessed Cersei and Jamie having sex during a visit to the Starks at Winterfell. He was pushed from the tower by Jaime. The fall was intended to kill him but Bran survived. He remained in a coma for a while but awoke at the end of the season, paralysed from the waist down.
Robert's younger brothers, Stannis and Renly, both declared themselves king and challenged Joffrey's reign. After Khal Drogo's untimely death and the loss of their child through blood magic used to try to save him, Daenerys successfully hatched three dragons from eggs previously thought to be fossilised relics. These were presumably the same eggs that her ancestors unsuccessfully attempted to hatch.
Theon Greyjoy betrayed the Starks in order to win favour with his father. It was thought the Stark boys Bran and Rickon were burnt to death during the ambush but their deaths were faked and they escaped Winterfell. They were helped by the Starks' mentally challenged servant Hodor and wildling Osha. Out of revenge for the loss of his sons in the war, Robb's bannerman Lord Rickard Karstark killed two unarmed Lannister squires held at Riverrun.
As compensation the Freys had Robb's uncle Edmure Tully marry Lord Walder's daughter Roslin. During the wedding the Freys turned on the Starks. Along with most of the northern army, Robb, his pregnant wife and mother were massacred by House Frey and House Bolton with Tywin Lannister acting as a secret accomplice. The Lannisters installed House Bolton as the new rulers of the north to replace House Stark, while the Freys displaced the Tullys in the Riverlands.
Poor conditions there lead to the Mutiny at Craster's Keep. Tensions rose and Mormont was killed by his own men, segregating the group into loyalists and betrayers. A fight broke out and in the confusion Samwell Tarly escaped with Craster's daughter-wife Gilly. Bran had been having visions of the Three Eyed Raven and decided to abandon his quest to Castle Black in search of the raven who could give him answers about his new powers.
It was revealed that Lysa murdered her husband and framed the Lannisters, which led to Ned's decision to go to King's landing as hand to Robert Baratheon. She had done so under the instruction of Littlefinger, whom she was besotted with. Beyond the Wall Bran and his party were attacked by wights. Jojen died in the attack but the others were saved by the Children of the Forest who escorted them to safety. They led Bran and co to the cave of the Three-Eyed Raven, who actually used to be a man and was the Last Greenseer, attended by the remaining Children of the Forest.
Cersei tried to create a new alliance between the Crown and the Faith to counteract the growing influence of the Tyrells at court. However The High Septon was deposed and due to Cersei's influence the leader of the Sparrows, the 'High Sparrow', was elected the new High Septon. The Wildling leader Mance Rayder was sentenced to death for breaking his vows to the Night's Watch. Stannis carried out the execution by having Melisandre burn Mance alive as an offering to the Lord of Light.Jon realised that every Wildling who remained beyond the Wall could potentially be turned into a wight by the White Walkers, adding to their undead army. He and Tormund and a few of the Night's Watch ventured there to convince the surviving wildlings to return.
Stannis's army became snowbound during a blizzard. Bolton raids destroyed his supply train, leaving his army without enough food to march to Winterfell or retreat to Castle Black. Jon Snow was betrayed by some of his Night Watchmen who found his radical ideas of uniting with the Wildlings treacherous. He was stabbed numerous times and died. For now.Jon Snow was resurrected by Melisandre, who returned to Castle Black following Stannis's death. The leaders of the Mutiny at Castle Black were executed. The few remaining men of the Night's Watch now worked closely with the surviving Wildlings, who had become loyal to Jon.
At the Battle of the Bastards, Jon Snow triumphed. Ramsay was defeated personally by Jon, and later executed by Sansa Stark, who fed him to his own hounds. Unfortunately their brother Rickon was killed. Osha had been killed earlier by Ramsay.Following her extensive training with the Faceless Men in Braavos, Arya Stark returned to Westeros to avenge her family, starting with Walda Frey, whom she killed.
Things went south for Cersei, whose son had now fallen susceptible to the influence of the High Sparrow, who put Cersei on trial for her past crimes . Cersei joined forces with Euron Greyjoy. He decimated Daenerys' Dornish fleet, who were accompanied by Yara and Theon, distracting them long enough for Jaimie to sack House Tyrells' Highgarden. Theon fled but Yara was captured.
Littlefinger returned and attempted to turn the Stark sisters against one another but they outwitted him, exposing his lies and crimes. Following a short trial, Arya killed him. Cersei pretended to play ball whiled secretly plotting to hire the Golden Company to wipe out Daenerys when the time was right.
Jaime finally made it to the north and revealed that Cersei had no intention of joining forces with them. In fact she planned to let the army of the dead slaughter them all so that her position as queen was uncontested.Jon eventually confessed the truth of his lineage to Daenerys and she was unsettled that he had a more legitimate claim to the throne. He promised to stay loyal to her but she had her doubts.
With the White Walkers defeated they launched their attack on Cersei. Daenerys lost another dragon – shot down by Euron – who also wiped out most of Daenerys' fleet.
