Landslide of women turning out for Harris did not materialise - while Trump's support amongst black, Latino and young voters rose
Both candidates had made appeals to minorities. And some of the results defied expectations, with one in three people of colour voting for Trump, and the votes of Hispanic and black people playing a role in securing his victory.While Harris led among black voters by a substantial margin, and also among Hispanic voters, support for Trump among both groups was higher than in 2020 and played a decisive role for him in some states.
Voter surveys demonstrated that Trump won about 20 per cent of votes from black men in both states – a significant uptick from four years ago when he won just seven per cent in North Carolina and 11 per cent in Georgia. In Wisconsin, Trump similarly doubled his support among black voters, anAmong Latino and Hispanic voters, it is closer: Harris with about 56 per cent of the share, and Trump on 41 per cent. Trump’s support among this group rose by six percentage points compared with 2020.
