But it's not without controversy
This is what Manchester’s new ‘upside down’ office block will look like after planners gave the £77million tower the go-ahead.
But the building could be better known for its ‘upside down’ design, where the top floor is significantly wider than its base, in an effort to be a landmark for the Northern Quarter, according to architects Howells. However, the NXQ project hasn’t been without controversy. While some non-listed Victorian and Georgian buildings will be retained, others will be demolished — prompting councillors to delay making a decision on the planning application to visit the site and assess what could be lost.
“I know the area, I know it’s been in decline and it’s a useful development to have, to bring in that business. But I think it’s important that it’s not one or two buildings that are important, it’s the normal, working-class, everyday buildings that are important too.”
