The departure of student loan chief Richard Cordray is a welcome development after the Department of Education botched the launch of the new FAFSA.
The announcement is a welcome development as Cordray has overseen one of the worst policy debacles of the Biden administration in the rollout of the new version of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Instead, Cordray’s three-year perch atop FSA has been nothing short of a disaster, as the FAFSA rollout has proven to be one of the administration’s greatest failures. Delays, glitches, and errors compounded over months as schools and students are still dealing with the effects of this bureaucratic fiasco more than four months after the application finally went live.
