Jeremy Fitzsimmons died two years after being stabbed

Jeremy Fitzsimmons went to see his friend on a Friday. He had fallen out with Jimmy Walton, but had decided to go round and ask to borrow some cigarette papers.

Paramedics transported him to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where his wound was cleaned and sutured, and he was discharged the following day. In a statement to the police, Mr Fitzsimmons said: "I am completely in shock at the way Jimmy and Tracey attacked me. I have no idea why they have done this. In March 2018, Walton and Simmonds pleaded guilty to wounding and were each jailed for their roles in the attack. Simmonds was sentenced to 18 months and was released from HMP Styal in August the same year.

However the jury concluded that regardless of any medical failings, Mr Fitzsimmons would not have become unwell had he not been stabbed at the flat. In the time between the attack and Mr Fitzsimmons death, Walton also died, however Simmonds was to face justice for a second time for her role in the attack which led to Mr Fitzsimmons' death.

"My father would spend time with me and my daughter on a weekly basis. He looked after my daughter when I went to work. He doted on her and she loved her silly grandad. She still asks when she will see him again. Trying to explain this to a young child is heartbreaking.
