The Public Health Agency, NHS, and Northern Ireland Health Service recommend taking the supplement during winter months
As the days get shorter and the nights draw in, we must make sure to get enough of the nutrients we need to help our bodies stay healthy, especially during the winter months.
The issue comes as our main source of vitamin D is sunlight, which is often in short supply in Northern Ireland, particularly during the colder autumn and winter months when the sun begins to set in the afternoon. As such, we only get enough of the right kind of sunlight for our bodies to make vitamin D between April and September.
Can I get enough vitamin D from my diet? In spring and summer, most people get enough vitamin D through sunlight on their skin and through a healthy, balanced diet. But during the autumn and winter months, sunlight is not strong enough for the body to make vitamin D.
