Locals have spoken out about what it's like to live in area with crime problems
Residents in an area near Greater Manchester say serious crime has become a part of daily life. Fartown, around a half a mile to the north of Huddersfield town centre, and just half an hour away from both Oldham and Rochdale, has seen a number of violent incidents over the past half a decade or so.
Police said a suspect in a grey Seat Ibiza had pulled up in the street, got out and shot a man, hitting him in the leg. The victim was a man in his 50s. "I try to convince them to change their life. I have sat with them near the 24-hour shop. When the crackheads are high, they go crazy. The only way to help them is rehab or prison."
"My kids keep asking, 'shall we move' - it's because of the shooting, and fighting and drugs." When he moved to Fartown, he recalled that the focus of drug activity was a phone box, but this is no longer the case. A business owner, who did not want to be named, said he had known a man who had been gunned down in Fartown and had died. "He had been a good footballer, a good sprinter. It was sad. He got in with the wrong crowd. I don't know about the shooting . Maybe it was drugs, maybe it was a personal vendetta."
