Make the most of the last few weeks of summer with a magical woodland walk
September may be looming around the corner but let’s not wish away the summer just yet. Make the most of the last couple of weeks of the school break with a scenic walk in the countryside.
A stone’s throw away from Darwen Tower is Roddlesworth Woods. It's a beautiful area of woodland with the River Roddlesworth flowing through it and among the trees you’ll find hidden waterfalls and mysterious ruins.At the northern end of the woods lie there reservoirs: the Rake Brook Reservoir, the Lower Roddlesworth Reservoir and the Higher Roddlesworth Reservoir. Head south along the river from the reservoirs and you’ll come across Mill Lane Waterfall, which cascades down between the trees.
The house has all but disappeared, but the well-preserved remains of the hall’s well house still remain today. You can’t go inside the building, but you can take a peek inside through the bars at the windows.
