There are plenty of places in the ACC that are SEC-worthy towns.
Imagine Jimmy Rane going public, saying the quiet part out loud at the top of his lungs and launching a verbal thermonuclear missile toward 2201 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North in Birmingham, the headquarters of the Southeastern Conference.
Imagine the Auburn trustee declaring that the university has just about had it with its long-time conference home, that the SEC has failed the school miserably and that, short of a radical restructuring plan from the league, the school should pursue an exit strategy ASAP. Imagine this bombshell dropping after Alabama and Georgia already had filed lawsuits against the SEC to get out from under an onerous media rights deal to reduce their exit fees to pursue greener pastures without bankrupting themselves on their way out the door.
Point of order. You would need an imagination greater than Albert Einstein - who opined that “imagination is greater than knowledge” - to envision any of the SEC’s 14-going-on-16 members searching for an escape hatch on the USS Greg Sankey. So just play along and substitute North Carolina for Auburn, Florida State and Clemson for Alabama and Georgia, and you have the current state of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
