Make-up artist Sasha Louise Pallari has created the hashtag filterdrop to kick unrealistic beauty standards on social media to the kerb
has spoken out on Instagram and created the hashtag #filterdrop. What is it about? It's a move to re-balance the use and effects of filters, face-altering apps and Photoshop on social media. Sasha is encouraging Instagram users to post a picture of themselves without any editing and include the hashtag #filterdrop, producing a realistic and honest feed of content that, on occasion, stands in direct juxtaposition to many of the highly polished images out there.
According to Sasha the ramifications of widespread filter use are most apparent in teenagers. 'The effects are so noticeable that I don’t do prom make-up anymore. The most vulnerable generation with regards to filters are teenagers. If a 17 year old girl comes into my studio and shows me a picture of Kim Kardashian, what am I supposed to do? I’m not a magician. People have different shaped eyes, they have different shaped lips, they have different skin textures, you name it.
