There's 'Certain Blacks' and then there is LT Beauchamp by DredieMann
CERTAIN BLACKS, the East London arts development organisation returns for their ninth festival this February, having been awarded Arts Council England National Portfolio funding specifically to support diverse artists and programmes.
As a finale, Heroes welcomes a rare visit from LT Beauchamp , the esteemed Chicago blues innovator who played on the seminal 1970 album Certain Blacks by Art Ensemble of Chicago, from which the London organisation takes its name. Programme of events:“I see coming to the UK to perform to be essential to my curatorial role in the Blues continuum.
“The Blues is self-containing with its roots endlessly self-nourishing, and yet, always giving. It has provided a platform steeped in a history of suffering, lose, struggle, celebration, and survival against the odds for the benefit of its progeny, practitioners, and admirers. “And legendary British artists like John Mayall and the Climax Blues Band have collaborated with numerous Blues artists on stage and on recordings. I have seen incredible performances at the 100 Club on Oxford Street including a knockout performance by Deitra Farr and Johnny Rawls.
“Back in 1970, I jammed at the Roundhouse in London with artists that came from various backgrounds including drummer, Louis Moholo; saxophonist, Dudu Pukwana; and trumpeter, Mongezi Feza, who are all from South Africa, but resided in London. And thanks to the proximity and another happening scene, some of us continued the jamming in Paris. Indeed, these were great times for music in the UK, and on the Continent.
