Hora Sfakion, a quaint village on the Greek island of Crete, is known for its tranquillity and lack of tourist crowds compared to other beach destinations in Greece. This peaceful coastal village, located in the southwest of Crete, offers an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle.
The local beach, Vrissi, situated just west of the village, was named one of Greece's best by CN Traveller this year. There are also several other beaches within easy reach, including Ilingas Beach, which is a 20-minute walk along the coastal footpath and has its own taverna.CN Traveller recommends that those visiting Crete take a local boat tour to explore some of the island's finest beaches, rather than navigating the often rough roads.
The local economy of this small village relies heavily on tourism, alongside traditional industries such as fishing, olive oil production, and shepherding.
