Thierry Henry worked with Jeremey Doku during his time as Belgium assistant coach, and the Arsenal legend has detailed the advice he gave the Manchester City star to improve his game
Thierry Henry has revealed his advice to Jeremy Doku as he tried to help the Manchester City winger reach the next level. It has been two seasons since City splashed £55million on the promising Belgian winger, and there have been more than a few flashes of brilliance. Doku’s speed and dribbling ability consistently put full-backs on the back foot, and his assists against Aston Villa and Wolves proved vital during the team’s run-in for Champions League qualification.
“For example, David Beckham – when you look at him, he’s not particularly fast or strong, but he could shift the ball and cross and the nines knew what was happening. “I had that discussion with Doku, and I didn’t stay long enough to talk to him more, but you don’t have to dribble past someone to deliver a good cross.” This season, Doku competed with Savinho and occasionally Omar Marmoush for a spot on the left wing, having forced Jack Grealish further down the pecking order.
