A Victorian MP is set to introduce a bill to repeal the state’s prohibition on nuclear energy, arguing there is “no excuse” to oppose it if people are serious about addressing climate change.
A year after launching an internal investigation into developing a domestic nuclear energy industry, the Coalition is preparing to release its proposal to transition key coal mining regions into hubs for modular nuclear reactors.
Mr Limbrick said cost, which is often cited as a deterrent to the energy source, cannot be the main reason for opposing it. In the wake of the federal Coalition’s nuclear pitch, Victoria’s Energy Minister Lily D'Ambrosio has ruled out any such change to the state’s grid. The post included an image of Mr Dutton alongside Victoria’s Opposition leader, John Pesutto, under the title “Coalition set to go nuclear on energy”.
