Martin's Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set nearly 200 years before Game of Thrones, telling the story of the Targaryen civil war with King Viserys.
'Game of Thrones' Contains Another Significant Reference to the Dance of the Dragons Though not as egregious a spoiler as Joffrey's, Shireen Baratheon discusses the events of House of the Dragon as well. In Season 5, Episode 9, aptly titled "The Dance of Dragons," Stannis asks his daughter about a book she is reading.
