Since 23 March there has been a blanket ban on weddings across the country during the pandemic – including royal nuptials. But as of 4 July, the government confirmed that wedding and civil partnership ceremonies can go ahead – with social distancing measures in place. Now, the first royal wedding of the year has taken place in adherence with the new rules.ByThis week, Princess Raiyah of Jordan and British journalist Ned Donovan exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in England.

Taking to Twitter, the bride – who is currently studying for a PhD in pre-modern Japanese literature at UCLA – revealed that she had originally planned to hold their wedding in her native Jordan.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding was also set to take place at St James’s Palace on 29 May. Postponed until further notice, it will be something to look forward to for the nation.
