The Cape May County Airport has been run by the Delaware River and Bay Authority since 1999.

Cape May County is poised to regain control over its airport after notifying a leading transportation agency managing the property that it will not renew a 30-year-old deal between the two.

“The DRBA has appreciated the collaborative relationship it has enjoyed with and remains proud of the incredible growth and renewal accomplished at Cape May Airport over the past 25 years,” the authority said in a statement. The county’s intentions do not to disrupt construction or the businesses occupying space on the property, authority officials said.

About 25,000 flights operate in and out of the airport annually, the authority said. It’s used mostly by smaller aircraft, supporting recreational and corporate flights year-round.
