This Memorial Day, honor their courage, remember their service, ensure the legacy of their sacrifice | OpinionJersey City's 27th annual Memorial Day commemoration in honor of Jersey City Vietnam Veterans took place Monday, May 29, 2023, at Pershing Field. Just shy of two decades ago, I sat in a military ethics and strategy class taught at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
The class at Annapolis taught us the principles of military strategy from von Clausewitz to Sun Tzu and the ethics of conflict from the writings of Dr. Martin Luther King and Sir Winston Churchill. Dr. King believed, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” In the words of President Abraham Lincoln, “A nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure.”
