Adrian Fonseca moved to Australia from India when he was 2. Now he GWS’ deputy chairman and has bought two properties in Sydney’s Bellevue Hill for $30 million.

Adrian Fonseca hit the headlines in August when he paid $15.6 million for a mansion in the exclusive eastern Sydney suburb of Bellevue Hill.

Fonseca also sits on the board of the Australia Ballet Foundation and the Gold Dinner Committee for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, which arranges Australia’s biggest fundraising event. The family moved to Melbourne during Fonseca’s secondary school years, but his father died when the young man was in his final year.

By the time Fonseca had finished his degree, he wanted to be an investment banker after completing a few years of law. He figured that was where the dealmaking really occurred. There followed a 17-year career in investment banking in Sydney, London, and Singapore. Then, at the age of 42, Fonseca decided to set up his own business, Oxanda Education, in part because “when you own your own business, you can do whatever you want. No one’s telling you what to do.”At the same time, childcare was an area where there was a lack of supply, a recognition that the rate of participation needed to be increased.

Fonseca points out that if he were selected, he would be the only AFL club chairman of colour in the history of the code. The 2023 Gold Dinner for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. Adrian Fonseca sits on the organising committee.‘It’s extremely sweet’
