Families that have children with special needs would not be able to provide adequate support without NDIS funding, says Louise Gleeson, who is a mother of a 16-year-old neurodiverse child.
With therapy costs rising due to inflation and a low supply of health professionals, Louise Gleeson says she would struggle to support her 16-year-old son’s special needs without NDIS funding.
Due to the rising cost of therapy services, Ms Gleeson had to reduce Lachlan’s speech therapy sessions from weekly to fortnightly, so he could access other support. Along with speech therapy, Ms Gleeson pays $170 per social skills session, $400 for respite care during school holidays and up to $265 for a psychology session.
