This year I confronted death and found the only two things that I really needed from life In our 'the year that changed me' series, writers reflect on what 2022 taught them; lessons learned from a transformative moment in their lives ✍️

Some people drift through life silently like ghosts and leave no trace when they go. My father-in-law, Colin Davies, was not one of those people. He lived life to the full and left a gaping hole in the lives of his loved ones when he passed aged 77 in November, at home on the Isle of Man, looking out over the Irish Sea. He was surrounded by his loving, raucous, gregarious, slightly mad family and three children.
In the month of his death, when he was in and out of a hospice, he was still the company’s top salesman and he was the top salesman for all of 2022. Resilience, determination, and the value of hard work were lessons he taught that have stood us all in good stead.
