Chloe McLaren was born in Scotland and loved the snow and freezing cold. But when she left Brisbane for a placement in the sweltering outback, she realised she did not want to leave.

The concept has been around for decades but there was a 144 per cent increase in the number of PTTs approved in Queensland in 2022 compared to 2021. PTT applications are regulated by the Queensland College of Teachers , which can grant permission to a candidate when a school is unable to find a registered teacher for a specific position.
"If we feel the student is ready, that they have the ability to enter the classroom with readiness to teach, but also community readiness and [the ability to] balance their studies, we will offer our full support," said Australian Catholic University National School of Education Queensland head Tracey Sanders.
