With only three league games left, there is insufficient time to patch together the broken parts in time to affect a transformation that would give United any chance of securing some kind of European representation next season, let alone beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. At least with Ten Hag still in his post there is a reason for the players to unite, if only to rally against him.

The transformation was immediate and ultimately led to victory over Manchester City in the Champions League final. Whilst this underlined his qualities as a coach, it also demonstrated the volatile nature of cup competitions that often reward disruptors in a way league competitions do not.
