The UK government is providing free energy vouchers worth up to £300 to thousands of families struggling with rising living costs. The vouchers are part of the Department for Work and Pensions' Household Support Fund, which is distributed by local councils to help with essential bills such as energy, food, and water.
Free energy vouchers worth up to £300 are being made available to thousands of families to help with bill payments. The cash can be claimed through the Department for Work and Pensions' (DWP) Household Support Fund (HSF), which is distributed by local councils to help manage living costs. St Helens Borough Council in Merseyside, for instance, is offering support with essential bills.
The DWP's Household Support Fund aims to aid residents who are struggling to afford energy, food, water, and other essential bills. In Yorkshire, councils in Rotherham and Middlesbrough, as well as Wakefield, have previously announced similar schemes to help people who need the vital cash help the most. The scheme will offer an application process for low-income households in urgent need of assistance with fuel or food or other living expenses, including utility arrears, or those needing help towards the cost of purchasing or replacing furniture or white goods. Furthermore, the scheme will provide direct awards to families receiving means-tested free school meals during school holidays, including qualifying children in nursery provision, care leavers, and other vulnerable groups. Additionally, the scheme will provide direct awards to low-income households that cannot afford to adequately heat or power their properties and have medical conditions that may worsen the situation, such as residents with serious respiratory conditions or those who constantly require medical equipment. Moreover, the initiative is set to offer direct payouts to lower-income families who don't qualify for other cost-of-living aids. Pensioners ineligible for this year's winter fuel payment but who get Housing Benefit or a Council Tax reduction will receive direct payments of £200, and £300 for those over 80, reports Birmingham Live. The council highlighted: 'If you have been advised you will receive a direct payment, but are yet to receive it, or have received one which you need to query, please complete our payment enquiry form. Do not complete this form if you are seeking immediate help.
