Thousands of people are seeing their hospital appointments scrapped due to the Queen’s funeral next week.

The decision to cancel appointments was taken despite data at the end of July showing a record 6.8 million people were on waiting lists – with nearly 2.7 million waiting more than 18 weeks. A retired teacher from London, whose Twitter handle is @ceecee130847, explained: ‘I’ve had a heart investigation delayed by a week.‘I’ve already been waiting 4 weeks.’
Katie Brodie added: ‘I’m a chemotherapy patient and had a Covid booster booked for 19th carefully timed round my treatment.openDemocracy said it spoke to a pregnant woman whose scan had been cancelled, explaining that she also faced a four-hour wait on hold when she rang up about the problem. A doctor at one trust told the website: ‘I imagine most of the doctors would be happy to just ignore the bank holiday, but we are totally reliant on a huge team of people paid minimum wage and treated like sh*t like porters and cleaners, and I imagine they will take a bank holiday if offered – as I would in their position.’
