Thousands of football fans are expected to attend matches across Scotland tonight, braving freezing temperatures that could reach -7°C in Glasgow. The coldest fixture of the season so far will see Celtic face Dundee United at Parkhead, with supporters advised to layer up for the frigid conditions.

Thousands of footie fans are set to brave the bitter cold tonight as temperatures plummet across Scotland .

More than 50,000 fanatics are set to pack out Parkhead as champions Celtic face Dundee United in Glasgow's east end. But diehards will feel the Arctic chill with the mercury predicted to fall to -7°C in the city. It will be the coldest fixture of the season so far, and supporters will have to layer up for the freezing conditions - with pies and bovrils likely to be in high demand from the stadium food stalls.

While the extreme cold will have punters chittering in the stands, fans will be spared from the snow storms that have caused chaos throughout northern parts of the country. The Met Office states: "Most areas will stay dry with clear skies and unbroken sunshine through the day. It will be a mainly dry evening and night with a widespread frost, severe in places. Winds light and variable."

Premiership rivals Kilmarnock and Motherwell are also in action in tonight's other 7:45pm kick-off at Rugby Park, and a similar outlook has been predicted for Ayrshire. In League Two, Edinburgh City host East Fife, with below-freezing temperatures in the capital expected to be around -6°C. Unfortunately for Dundee and Rangers supporters, the bone-chilling conditions will continue into Thursday night, as Philippe Clement's side make the trip to Dens Park. Yet while forecasts have warned of potential snow showers in parts of Tayside in the afternoon, it will be a mainly dry day with unbroken sunshine - meaning it's unlikely the Sky Sports televised clash will be at threat of postponement.
