A major road was closed this evening following a three- car crash in Old Swan . Emergency services were called to the junction of Prescot Road and Green Lane just after 4.20pm today, Friday February 7. Buses were diverted and police asked motorists to find an alternative route while the incident was dealt with. Details on possible injuries are currently unknown, police told the ECHO this evening. One resident, who lives outside the cordon, said he heard a ‘huge bang’ at around 4pm.
He said: “I was just in the house when I heard a huge bang. I came outside and the cars were all smashed up and someone was taken in an ambulance.” Another resident, who lives in the building just outside the cordon, heard the crash from his second floor flat. He told the ECHO : “It was some bang. It sounded like a huge truck had crashed.” A third resident described Prescot Road as “dangerous”. He said: “It’s so scary. I hate this road. It gets so busy and it’s dangerous. It can take 20 minutes to get across the road when it’s rush hour.” Police are appealing for witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage which could help with their investigation. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: 'We are appealing for information following a collision involving three vehicles in Old Swan this afternoon, Friday 7 February. 'Just after 4.20pm officers were called to a report of a collision involving three cars on Prescot Road. Injuries are unknown at this stage as the incident is being dealt with. 'Prescot Road and Green Lane are currently closed while emergency services dealt with the incident. We ask motorists to please avoid the area and find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience. We are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.'
