Concerns had been raised about drinking and crowd control

A "large scale music event" is set to go ahead at St Columb's Park in Derry's Waterside next month following concerns around drinking and crowd control.

Read more: Two major plans for Ebrington redevlopment given the green light by Derry and Strabane councilWhen the promoter suggested staging the concerts at the tennis courts in St Columb's Park instead, concerns around drinking and crowd control in the public space were raised by the nearby St Columb's Park House.

A Sinn Fein councillor proposed at that meeting that the event is approved following "meaningful engagement" with tenants including St Columb's Park House, in light of "the work St Columb's Park House do with young people". Two dance music events, Stack City Raves and Jika Jika, along with Abba tribute act Arrival and singer-songwriter Ryan McMullan, had all been booked for August 2023.

The council moved to take over the running of concerts and events at Ebrington, and a new process was put in place to invite promoters to apply.
